All classes are designed to be accessible to all students, whether new or experienced. Try all the classes to see which style works for you.
What is appropriate clothing for yoga class?
Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Dressing in layers can ensure your comfort during the different phases of the class. Please don't wear cologne or perfume, since many people are sensitive to fragrance.
When should I arrive for class?
Arrive on time, at least ten minutes before class time. This allows time to sign-in, take care of paperwork or payments, if any, and move into the yoga experience in an unhurried way.
What about food before a class?
Avoid eating a big meal two hours or less before class, although a small snack is okay. No orange juice or milk please. Both can cause abdominal discomfort. A quick snack of toast and honey is satisfying.
Do I have to remove my socks and shoes to enter the yoga studio?
Yoga is done barefoot without socks or shoes. Shoes may be left at the door or in cubbies inside the studio along with outerwear etc. Keep your socks on till you are on the mat. YWB prefers that you wear socks except when you are on your mat.
Do I have to have my own mat?
YWB has plenty of mats and other props. They are free for the using. All mats and props need to be wiped with a mat cleaner after use. If you start a regular practice it is better to invest in your own mat.
What do I do if I arrive late?
We welcome students at YWB for class even if you are late. Simply open the door and quietly join in. Students may leave early if needed as well. Let the instructor know if you need to leave before class ends.
Can I drink water during the class?
It is better not to drink anything during the class. Pregnant students may drink water as they need. It’s a good idea to drink plenty of water before and after class.
What should I do if I feel dizzy or need to visit the restroom during class?
If some moves make you dizzy or faint lie down on your right side with knees bent. Rejoin the class when you like. Another good way to calm down is to go into child's pose sitting back on your heels with arms beside you and folding forward with your forehead on the mat. Students may leave the room anytime and rejoin the class again. The restrooms are located just outside the studio.
I have some injuries and medical conditions but still want to practice yoga. What should I do?
Be sure to inform/update instructor about any injuries or medical conditions. At YWB we take time to talk about each student’s needs. It is important that the instructor is aware of any medical conditions so that they can help you modify your poses so as not to aggravate the condition.
Some poses really hurt. What should I do?
If it hurts, don’t do it! Respect any physical limitations you may encounter.
